Student Public Health Inspector - Temporary Full-Time

Summary:

We have an opening for four (4) temporary full-time STUDENT PUBLIC HEALTH INSPECTORS starting May 20, 2025 for 15 weeks. 

Working in a multi-disciplinary setting, the successful candidate will be exposed to most aspects of public health inspection along with an introduction to other public health disciplines (where time permits). The positions will be based out of the Clinton and Stratford (West Gore) offices. Travel will be required throughout Huron and Perth Counties and to all HPPH offices. 

Education:

Enrolment or past enrollment in a program of instruction approved by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI) Board of Certification. A list of institutions with accredited programs can be found on the CIPHI website. Candidates who have recently graduated from an accredited program seeking a 12-week practicum are eligible to apply.

Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of the Health Protection and Promotion Act and applicable legislation
  • Computer skills: proficiency in Microsoft office programs
  • Self-motivation

Conditions:

  • Terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the CUPE Collective Agreement
  • Successful candidates must obtain and maintain a satisfactory vulnerable sector check immunizations in accordance with Board Policy/Collective Agreements including annual influenza and COVID-19 immunizations unless medically contra indicated
  • Successful candidates must possess and maintain a valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a safe and well-maintained vehicle suitable for carrying out duties on behalf of the employer

Hours:

Usually 8:30 am – 4:30 pm; Monday to Friday (flexible may include evenings and weekends)

Wage:       

$26.39 per hour

Environmental Health Students - Temporary Full-Time

Summary:

We currently have openings for two (2) temporary full-time ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH STUDENTS beginning May 26, 2025, to August 29, 2025. These positions are based out of the Clinton office. Travel will be required throughout Huron and Perth Counties.

These positions support environmental sampling for its recreational water (beach) and West Nile Virus programs. Successful candidates may be called upon to assist in the delivery of other environmental health program related activities where required. This is not a public health inspector practicum.

Beach Sampling Program

Successful candidates will be required to collect recreational water samples at designated beaches across Huron and Perth Counties, post the results on the Health Unit’s web site, and utilize social media platforms to provide beach water quality related information.

West Nile Virus Program

Successful candidates will be required to set and pick up adult mosquito traps in various locations across Huron and Perth Counties, courier specimens and ensure data is maintained in applicable databases.

Education:

  • Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate Environmental Health or Science-based program is an asset

  • Self-motivation

Public Health Nurse - Part Time

We have an opening for a part-time (0.7 FTE) PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE starting immediately on the Infectious Disease Team. The position will be based out of the West Gore (Stratford) office.

Education:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing

Skills:

  • excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • excellent time management and organizational skill
  • able to work independently and in a team setting
  • proficient computers skills, including familiarity with Windows, Microsoft office programs and use of the Internet
  • Case and Contact Management experience
  • experience working with Databases (CCM, iPHIS)
